Reflection
What this hadith asks of us
The Prophet ﷺ ties completeness of faith to the way the heart holds other people. This hadith does not ask for politeness alone; it asks for generosity of the inner life. To love for another what you love for yourself means you do not secretly resent their blessing, exploit their weakness, or celebrate their humiliation. You want guidance, safety, dignity, forgiveness, and good provision for them as honestly as you want those things for yourself.
This standard exposes envy, but it also heals it. When you make duʿāʾ for someone receiving what you wanted, the heart loosens. When you protect someone's reputation as you would want yours protected, faith becomes social, embodied, real. The hadith builds a community where people are not threats to one another's worth. Your brother's blessing does not reduce Allah's generosity to you. Allah's treasures are not divided by human jealousy.
